Senior Assistant Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a 4-month contract position within the Global Wholesale Services Department. The incumbent is responsible for processing/accounting support and reconciliation of Total Return Swaps, OTC Equity Options & Hedge Funds within our department. The incumbent will be expected to take an active role in ensuring financial data integrity is maintained, and reporting deadlines are met. The incumbent is expected to take an active role in ensuring that accounting records are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and policies of the bank and regulators. The incumbent is expected to assist Managers and Senior Management in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the accounting records and reducing operational risks, and developing appropriate process and procedures to overcome system unavailability and deficiencies.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Provide leadership to motivate both individual and team performance. Realistically measure and fairly assess staff performance against their productivity contribution and results achieved: Maintaining ongoing training and cross-training programs; maintaining documentation up-to-date for policies, procedures and operating routines, including internal controls.
2. Enforce strong internal controls over routine operations to ensure accounting operations, processing, confirmation and payment activities are reliable with limited exception to reduce associated operational risk, including: Implement changes that will improve the operational efficiency and control costs, including overtime; Monitoring results and exceptions, analyzing underlying causes and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken to reduce the frequency of occurrence and minimize loss due to error; Enforcing an effective department B/F system for follow up and completion of periodic routines/tasks.
3. Provide back office support to Synthetic Prime Finance business, Finance, ISS Operations and other business line contacts.
4. Improve operations support, including business resumption and disaster backup compliance testing.
5. Maintain a thorough understanding of the multiple accounting policies relevant to Structured Products Operations
6. Follow special procedures for non-standard accounting routines and making suggestions for areas of improvement.
7. Willingness to take ownership of special projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong P/C skills (Excel, Access, Crystal Reporting)
- Working knowledge of Derivative Products - Total Return Swaps, OTC Equity Options, Hedge Funds, Equities and other investments together with related derivatives used to hedge exposures etc.
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of K2, CAMRA, BESS/SWIFT, SG & OG General Ledger systems and Bloomberg is an asset
EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:- University graduate (preferred Accounting, Finance, Commerce related)
- Completion or Enrollment of Canadian Securities Course
- Completion or Enrolment in CFA, CA, CMA, CGA etc., programs is an asset

- Please note: this is a 4-month contract position
- The incumbent must be willing to work extended hours and / or weekends to meet financial reporting deadlines and under high volume periods.
